Winds of 35 to 45 mph are accompanying heavy rain, which could bring down power lines or tree branches.

Gusts of 50 to 55 mph are possible between 3 and 5 p.m. Tuesday as a narrow band of heavy rainfall moves through the region, the weather service said. Gusts could reach as high as 58 mph as a cold front approaches.

As heavy rain falls on the frozen ground, there could also be minor urban flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

A few thunderstorms are also possible as temperatures warm into the mid-50s.

Up to an inch or 2 of new rain could fall in the storm.

Brief coastal flooding is also possible along Long Island Sound eu to the height of storm tides and high tide.

Splashover is possible along shore roads and areas, but roads should remain passable.

Rain will continue into Tuesday evening, dropping off by about 8 p.m.

It will be partly cloudy overnight with a low of about 30 degrees.

It will be partly sunny Wednesday, with a high near 40. But wind chill values will be between 25 and 35 as west winds continue.
