The weather could disrupt travel and events in interior Connecticut and beyond, the weather service said.
"There is a slight chance for a light wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain to develop after midnight Wednesday night and continue into early Thursday morning," said a Hazardous Weather Outlook statement from the National Weather Service.
The forecast covers northern Fairfield County and much of the interior of Connecticut.
"Monitor the latest forecast before traveling Thanksgiving morning," the statement said. "Any freezing rain will create dangerous travel conditions."
Along the coast, where it will be warmer, the forecast calls for the possibility of rain showers.
It will be sunny on Wednesday, with a high near 44 degrees but wind chills of 30 and 40 degrees. It will become increasingly cloudy Wednesday night as temperatures drop into the upper 20s.
There will be a 20 percent to 30 percent chance of freezing rain and sleet before noon Thursday, then a chance of rain all day. It will be cloudy, with a high in the mid-40s and wind chills of 30 to 40.
Drizzle could continue into Thursday night, with a low of about 35 degrees.
For Black Friday shoppers, there is a 40 percent chance of sprinkles before noon, then a chance of showers after noon. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high in the upper 40s.
The chance of showers increases Friday night, with a low in the mid-30s.
Any showers should clear up by late Saturday morning, with partly sunny skies and with a high again in the upper 40s.
The weather Sunday and Monday will be sunny with a high in the mid-40s to wrap up the holiday weekend and start the new workweek.
The high winds from earlier this week are diminishing, but the peak wind gusts recorded were:
- Stamford: 47 mph on Monday afternoon
- Bridgeport: 44 mph on Monday evening
- Danbury: 43 mph on Monday night
