Echo Hose & Fire Marks 42nd Anniversary Of Massive Arson At Shelton Factory SHELTON, Conn. -- A Shelton Fire Company Lieutenant recalled a devastating fire that occurred 42 years ago on March 1 at a local factory. Lieutenant Mike Plavcan posted photos and wrote about the fire on Facebook. Nobody died in the fire, which occurred at the B.F. Goodrich Sponge Rubber Factory. The site is now the Shelton Riverwalk. Plavcan, a member of Echo Hose Hook and Ladder Co. 1, said on the Facebook post that the fire was one of the largest industrial arsons in the nation’s history. New Canaan Police Report Close Encounter Between Dog, Coyote NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski warned dog owners to closely supervise their pets after an encounter between a pet dog and a coyote on Tuesday, according to a report in the New Canaan Advertiser.Krolikowski said the encounter occurred around 6:45 a.m. on Autumn Lane between a medium-sized dog and the coyote. Case Against Former Danbury Mayor Eriquez Dismissed DANBURY, Conn. -- An assault charged against former Danbury Mayor Gene Eriquez was dismissed, according to a report on WLAD. Eriquez, 64, served as the mayor of Danbury from 1989-2001. A judge dismissed the charge that stemmed from a domestic incident in May 2016. He faced charges of disorderly conduct and interfering with an emergency call. The charges were dismissed because he completed a family violence education program. Detroit Man Gets 3 Years For Smash-And-Grab At Stamford Jewelry Store STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Detroit man received a 36-month prison sentence for his role in a heist at a Stamford jewelry store in November 2014, prosecutors said. U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden in Bridgeport sentenced Brandon Paul Quainton, 23, to 36 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for his role in a smash-and-grab robbery of the Stamford store. Norwalk Youth Wrestling Program Crowns 4 State Champions NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Mad Bulls crowned four state champions and sent 35 wrestlers to last weekend's state finals in New Haven. The Mad Bulls sent 10 wrestlers to the finals in the various weight classes. Tribes Pick East Windsor As Site For 3rd Proposed Casino In Connecticut The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribes have proposed building a third casino in Connecticut, and have selected East Windsor to build a new entertainment and gaming facility.
