(Sugar Land, TX.) The Bridgeport Bluefish were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 5-3 on Monday evening at Constellation Field.
Sugar Land took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on left fielder Ryan Langerhanss two-run home run but Bridgeport took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two-out RBI double by third baseman Ramon Castro and came around to score on first baseman Luis Lopezs two-run home run. The Bridgeport lead would not last long as the Skeeters tied the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning on third baseman Chase Lambins RBI sacrifice fly. The score remained at 3-3 until the bottom of the eighth inning when Sugar Land scored two runs after Bridgeport reliever Jaye Chapman (2-1) walked three batters then allowed a run to score on a passed ball and a second run scored on a wild pitch moments later.
Hunter Jones started for Bridgeport and allowed three runs off six hits in six innings of work while striking out four batters. Chapman took the loss after walking four batters in one inning of relief. Roy Corcoran (3-0) earned the victory in relief after pitching a scoreless eighth inning and Brian Broderick picked up his fifth save of the season for Sugar Land. Sean Gallagher started for the Skeeters and allowed three runs off five hits in five innings.
Bridgeport returns to The Ballpark at Harbor Yard to begin a three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Wednesday August 6th, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
