Bluefish winning streak snapped at two

Simmons' three hits not enough as York edges Bridgeport

By PAUL HERRMANN Bridgeport – The Bridgeport Bluefish (19-32) were defeated by the York Revolution (31-22), 5-1 in the first of a four game series on Tuesday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. York scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning when Travis Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to left fielder Denny Almonte scoring Chad Tracy who had singled. The Revs then added two runs in the top of the fifth inning when Sean Smith singled home Garcia, who had doubled and then Smith scored on an RBI single by Wilson Valdez. Bridgeport got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when Joe Mather singled in James Simmons. In the top of the seventh inning, Valdez singled home Justin Greene and Smith for two more Revolution runs. Simmons was the only Bridgeport player with more than one hit, going 3-for-5 with a run scored. York Reliever Ian Durham (3-1) picked up the win after logging an inning and two thirds allowing two hits, zero runs, no walks with two strikeouts. Revolution starter Logan Williamson settled for a no decision going four innings giving up one earned run, allowing five hits, issuing four walks with four strikeouts. For the Bluefish, starter Kanekoa Texeira (3-2) suffered the loss going five innings giving up eight hits, three earned runs, no walks with one strikeout. Bridgeport and York will play game three of their four game series tomorrow night with the first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. It’s Bluefish Baseball Card Set giveaway day at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, presented by Printech (first 500 paid guests).
