The incident took place around 10:30 p.m., Thursday, April 18, at the market located at 966 State St., said Bridgeport Police spokesman Terron Jones.
According to Jones, a suspect described as a tall black male wearing all black clothing including a black mask and gloves entered the market and went behind the counter, displayed a firearm, and shot the store employee in the right leg inches below the knee.
He then allegedly stole $400 from the store and fled south on Normal Street, Jones said.
The victim with non-life threatening injuries was transported to Bridgeport Hospital where he was conscious and speaking to detectives, he added.
Anyone with information is asked to report it 203-576-TIPS.
