Bridgeport uses timely hitting, great defense and solid pitching to take the series from Long Island

Bridgeport The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Long Island Ducks 4-1 in Sunday afternoon’s game at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Hunter Jones (5-9) was outstanding on the mound for Bridgeport. He had a no-hit game going through four innings until a single from Bill Hall. Overall, Jones went six innings of two hit, four strikeout, and one-run baseball. Jones has won each of his last two starts giving up just six hits and two runs over 12 innings.

The team went station to station in scoring their first three runs off of Long Island starter Bill Murphy (2-11). Murphy gave up three runs (one earned) on four hits in five innings and also walked six hitters.

Brandon Chaves led the way for Bridgeport offensively with two hits and two runs scored. The RBIs were spread out over four members of the line up. Prentice Redman, James Simmons and Stantrel Smith had three; while the fourth run came off of the bat of Luis Lopez. Lopez blasted his third homerun of the year in the seventh inning, giving the ‘Fish insurance.

With the win, Bridgeport has taken three of four games in the series and closed the gap with Long Island to three games.
