Motorcycle Police Escort 'Wall That Heals' On Trip To Bridgeport

WESTPORT, Conn. — Motorcycle police officers from across Connecticut, including Westport officers, provided an escort Wednesday for "The Wall That Heals" at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport.

The Wall That Heals, a mobile half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., was moved to Seaside Park in Bridgeport after a Wednesday morning motorcade from Westport’s Sherwood Island State Park.

The city and the National Association of Naval Veterans Port 5 enlisted the support of local motorcyclist organizations to escort the Wall as it was moved to Bridgeport.

The Wall will be on display for the public from 6 p.m. May 4 through noon May 7. It will be open 24 hours a day while it is on display at Seaside Park.

The original wall was built by the nonprofit Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund in 1980. The mobile replica, with 24 panels that are assembled on site, has traveled around the world.

The unique memorial lists the name of every U.S. serviceman and servicewoman killed in Vietnam.
