Bridgeport Animal Rescue Crew (BARC) was selected for the award by Uber drivers through an initiative called Project Jumpstart, which gives awards to support causes submitted by drivers every quarter.
The celebration at the Fairfield Theater Company marks the efforts and achievements of Uber’s driver partners over the past year.
Driver Louis Pagliuco accepted the award for BARC, having nominated the group for consideration.
Pagliuco, a veteran driver-partner who has given over three thousand rides, has also served as a local volunteer firefighter and EMT for 10 years.
“It’s an honor to receive this award on behalf of BARC, and I’m very gracious that my cause was selected by Uber to kick off this initiative,” said Pagliuco.
“BARC goes to the full extreme, to not only rescue dogs but ensure they have safe homes with loving owners to move into. They are the hardest working and most selfless group of people I’ve ever met, and it was my Christmas wish to help them out some way."
“Uber is proud to introduce Project Jumpstart in Connecticut, and we believe BARC was the right group to receive the first award,” said Matt Powers, General Manager for Uber in Connecticut.
“This award will do more than just help BARC’s work to rescue and relocate dogs in need of homes. It will remind our driver-partners that Uber is committed to supporting the causes they care about and allow us to better serve the people who serve our community.”
Through Jumpstart Uber will donate $1,500 to an organization each quarter.
To be considered for the award, drivers submit an application explaining how their selected organization serves the community and why an award from Uber would help their efforts.
