A $10,000 donation from Farmers Insurance designated for this project made the redesign possible.
“The waiting room was in desperate need of attention, and had not had a fresh coat of paint in 20 years,” said Michael Patota, President/CEO of the Child & Family Guidance Center. “We are grateful to Farmers Insurance for enabling us to do something special for the families we see.”
Designers Suzanne Ehrlich of Wade Ehrlich Studio and Loren Rubino created a the design concept, ordered materials, painted wall murals, laid carpeting and more. In addition, a team of staff members from Child & Family Guidance Center worked extra hours and weekends to prep, paint and assemble furniture.
Sharon Taberski, a nationally known reading consultant, author, and 40-year New York City Public Schools veteran, donated her collection of hundreds of children’s books to the Child & Family Guidance Center, upon her recent retirement.
Patota said, “The majority of children we serve live in poverty, and they are coming to us for help with mental health and behavioral challenges. Having a beautiful waiting room filled with books and color—where a child can play and read, and a parent can have a few moments of respite—is something that we are now so fortunate to have.”
The Child and Family Guidance Center is located at 180 Fairfield Ave. Its mission is to address the emotional and psychological well-being of children and their families. Over the last year alone, CFGC served more than 3,100 children and families. CFGC’s main office is in Bridgeport, and it also operates clinics in Fairfield, Norwalk and Stratford.
