Barnum swings into full action this week jam packed with parties, fireworks and entertainment capped by the Great Street Parade at noon Sunday. For more www.barnumfestival.com “This year we started the process to transform the Barnum Festival into a regional economic driver showcasing Bridgeport’s destinations, restaurants and entertainment venues,” says 2014 Barnum Festival Ringmaster Paul Timpanelkli, chief executive officer of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council. “Grab your family, neighbors and friends and join us for Barnum Festival week.” “Mr. Barnum said ‘The noblest art is that of making others happy,’" says Barnum Festival Executive Director Elaine K. Ficarra. “This week we honor his spirit, genius and commitment to entertaining children and adults alike with a full field of events.”   Barnum Festival events: Thursday, Barnum Sails the Sound. A picnic on the dock starting 4:30 p.m., followed by a 6:30 p.m. cruise around Long Island Sound with a live band on the P.T. Barnum, the flagship of the Bridgeport-Port Jefferson Ferry Company, named for the ferry company’s founder. Dancing on board to the What Up Funk Band and special guest appearance by the ringmaster and his group Yesteryear. $45 includes dinner and two free drinks on board the ship.
