Child Strangled, Would-Be 911 Caller Thwarted In Saratoga Attack: Cops
A Capital Region man choked a child and prevented a person from calling 911 before he was eventually arrested, police said Tuesday, Sept. 29.
Anthony L.M. Bechand, 29, of Saratoga, was detained early Sunday, Sept. 27, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s office said.
Bechand applied pressure to the neck of a minor with an intent to impede their breathing, damaged another person’s property to stop them from calling 911, and menaced a person with a “dangerous instrument,” the sheriff’s office said.

Valley Stream DWI Driver Who Permanently Injured Teenager Gets Prison Time: Authorities
A drunk Long Island driver who permanently impaired a teenager in a wreck was sentenced Tuesday, Sept. 29 to prison time, authorities said.
Kelyse Land, 26, of Valley Stream, got two to six years behind bars for the crash, the Nassau County District Attorney’s office said.
Land was traveling on Hempstead Avenue around 11:45 p.m. July 25, 2025, when she crossed over the double yellow line and slammed head-on into a BMW stopped at a red light, authorities said.
