The first began around 1:10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, and involved a Maryland man named Timothy Clark, 56, was wanted out of Stafford, Prince William, and Fredericksburg, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said in a release.
The incident involving Clark began when Deputy E.T. Osborn responded to Wawa, located at 9 South Gateway Drive, for a larceny. Staff said a man, later identified as Clark, stole a crate of Marlboro cigarettes.
The grand total of stolen merchandise would later be discovered to be over $2,400. Due to the similarity in cases, and even clothes, deputies were quickly able to identify the suspect Clark.
Sergeant A.T. Leckemby was on Northbound I-95 near mile marker 147 when he observed the suspect’s vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Leckemby initiated his emergency equipment in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop, however, Clark had other ideas and continued on at a high rate of speed.
As the pursuit continued into Prince William County, Clark continued his reckless driving behavior. Due to this, and deputies having a hard time maintaining eyes on the vehicle, the pursuit was terminated, but not before informing Virginia State Police of the situation.
Later on, Sergeant Leckemby received a call from a Virginia State Police Trooper. The Trooper said he saw the suspect vehicle near Lorton Road traveling at a high rate of speed. He attempted a traffic stop as well, however, Clark once again refused to stop.
Clark struck a State Trooper’s vehicle during the pursuit which was ended when they made intentional vehicle contact. Troopers discovered Clark was drunk, and located the stolen cigarettes, which deputies returned back to Wawa.
Virginia State Police arrested Clark on their own charges. On top of being served with his outstanding warrants, Clark earned additional warrants for grand larceny, felony eluding, and reckless by speed. He is currently being held in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
Then, around 6:35 p.m., 38-year-old William Weber struck an Aquia Harbour police cruiser and fled toward Richmond Highway, the sheriff's office said.
Weber proceeded north on Richmond Highway and made a U-turn at Coachman Circle to head south on Richmond Highway, as the chase continued onto Garrisonville Road. Weber proceeded to drive his Buick Encore over the median strip after passing the I-95 ramps.
"The Buick was clearly not happy about this abuse and stubbornly journeyed over the concrete divider, blowing out a tire," the sheriff's office said in a release. "Despite that, the suspect continued on, but quickly realized that Stafford County deputies were now pursuing him."
Weber stopped in front of the old Pizza Hut at 2883 Richmond Highway, and held his hands out the window in a posture of surrender, police said. The flat tire had severely limited the Encore’s encore.
The investigation revealed Aquia Harbour Police attempted to pull over the driver, Weber, for speeding within Aquia Harbour. Instead of complying, Weber continued on, sped past a red light, and not only struck a civilian’s vehicle, but the police department vehicle as well.
Weber was charged with felony eluding and felony hit and run, and two counts of reckless driving. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
