Hammer Wielding Inmate Finds Himself Back In Rappahannock Jail 2 Hours After Release

An inmate released from the Rappahannock Regional Jail found himself right back in a holding cell for a crime committed seconds after being freed, authorities said.

The Maryland inmate was released at 1:11 a.m., and committed the crimes just two hours later, authorities said.

The unnamed Maryland man used a hammer to smash the windows on one of the jail's vans and magistrate's door, sometime around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, May 7, authorities in Stafford County said.

The inmate, who had been released at 1:11 a.m., was captured on Hope Road, police said. When confronted about the shattering incident, the suspect denied that he broke anything, and instead, changed his answer after being informed the cameras caught the entire incident.

During his conversation with deputies, the suspect advised “I kinda broke this other window," police said. One of the windows at T.J. Cleaners, located at 2142 Richmond Highway, had also been smashed.

The suspect was charged with two counts of misdemeanor destruction of property, as well as, felony destruction of property. He was transported once again back to Rappahannock Regional Jail where he was held without bond and away from glass objects.
