In late December, deputies were called to a Knollwood Court residence to investigate a report of a disturbance involving Rickey Carr, who was brandishing a handgun. According to a spokesperson from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office, Carr had allegedly been beating his pit bull, named Demon, with a stick, and when he was confronted by others in the home, Carr took out the gun. Prince William County police were called to a home on the 13900 block of Telegraph Rd. in Woodbridge around 10:05 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28. When an officer began speaking with the resident, two pit bull dogs pushed past the man and charged at the officer, police said.  One of the dogs bit the officer in the hip while the other dog latched onto his vest. On July 23 at around 4:15 p.m., John Allen, 28, was found sleeping aboard a boat at Hope Springs Marina, while his dog was stuck outside in blazing heat with   no food or water, according to Stafford County Police. Rabid Raccoon Removed From Behind Arlington Community Center A raccoon that was found behind the Charles Drew Community Center in Arlington last week has tested positive for rabies, officials said. Animal Control officials on July 7 captured the raccoon, who showed symptoms of rabies in the 3400 block of 22nd Street at around 7:30 a.m., Arlington County Animal Control reported. Soon after its capture, the raccoon tested positive for the rabies virus, officials reported. Firefighters Rescue Pooch On The Lam Who Escaped To Tiny Prince William Island Prince William County firefighters had to rescue a dog after it escaped from animal control earlier this week.  The fire department shared photos of a daring water rescue of a chihuahua who got loose from Animal Control and jumped into a pond to escape on Tuesday, July 5. Firefighters jumped into a boat along with animal control workers and captured the pirate pooch after it doggy paddled to a small island a few hundred feet away from the shore.  They returned the wet dog to shore without injury.

Coyote That Attacked People, Pets At Fairfax County Park Had Rabies, Tests Show Tests on the remains of a coyote that bit several people and a police officer over the weekend confirmed what authorities had suspected: it was rabid.  The Fairfax County Health Department received the test results on Monday evening, June 6. Officials ask anyone who came in contact with a coyote on Saturday or Sunday in the Lake Accotink Park area in Springfield to contact the health department. Arlington County Animal Control responded to calls of a disoriented fox near the 4100 blocks of 41 St and Randolph Street N, south-east of Chain Bridge Rd and George Washington Pkwy around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington reports.
