Shortly after 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, officers were called to the intersection of Roundtree Drive and Riverside Drive in Woodbridge to investigate a reported shooting in the area.
Upon arrival, officers were met by shell casings in the area, but no victims were present, according to investigators, who were tipped off while canvassing the area about a vehicle with the victims of the shooting that had traveled several miles and stopped in Noblewood Plaza.
Officers say that when they located the shooting victims, they found a 17-year-old boy who suffered multiple gunshot wounds and needed to be airlifted to an area hospital. An 18-year-old suffered a graze wound and a third teen was uninjured.
The 17-year-old suffered what police described as “life-threatening injuries.”
According to the preliminary investigation, the three teens were at the intersection near Christa McAuliffe Elementary School when the gunshots rang out, with two being struck. They then drove away from the area before contacting the police.
No other injuries were reported, though two vehicles were struck by gunfire that were parked in the area, and multiple shell casings were recovered by detectives on Roundtree Drive.
The shooting remains under investigation; however, investigators say that the incident does not appear to be random.
No suspects or motive has been identified.
