Daniel John Sol, of Lorton, approached a person walking their dog on the 9600 block of Eaton Woods Place in Lorton on Tuesday, Oct. 24, around 4 p.m., county police said. Sol picked up the dog and began shaking it, without provocation, police said.

He fled the area but returned with a knife and threatened to stab the victim.

During their investigation, officers were flagged down by witnesses who said someone was ramming vehicles and driving recklessly on the roadway. Officers responded and Sol immediately fled in a 2017 Black Toyota Yaris, which prompted a pursuit, authorities said.

After a 12.5-mile pursuit, Sol crashed into a tree and was taken into custody. Before police arrival, several community members’ vehicles sustained minor damage. There were no reported injuries from the pursuit or crash.

Daniel John Sol, 30, of Lorton was taken to the Adult Detention Center and charged with Cruelty to Animals, Attempted Malicious Wounding, three counts of Assault on Law Enforcement/Fire/Medical Services, four counts of Felony Hit and Run, two counts of Reckless Driving, Felony Eluding, and Driving Under the Influence. He is being held on no bond.
