Drivers in Washington, DC can expect prolonged delays as crews continue to work to remove hazardous trees from the George Washington Memorial Parkway. A seven-mile stretch of the George Washington Parkway was closed Monday, July 31 due to storm damage. Downed trees were strewn across the roadway, which was shut around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, and remained closed Monday. According to the National Park Service, the highway was closed from Spout Run Parkway to I-495, with the exception of the northbound lanes from Route 123 to I-495. Rideshare Driver, 47, Killed In Crash Near Dulles Airport
A 47-year-old Silver Spring man died when the minivan he was operating as a rideshare vehicle struck a deer in Dulles Airport Wednesday, May 17, authorities said. Solomon Birhanie Sibhatu was heading west in a Toyota minivan along Dulles Airport Access Highway a mile west of I-495, when his vehicle collided with a deer around 8:30 p.m., the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police said. A 23-year-old Alexandria man died after he was thrown off of his motorcycle and fell nearly 30 feet onto the interstate on Sunday afternoon, June 26, authorities said. Braydon A. Police closed a portion of the Capital Beltway Tuesday night, May 17, to investigate a serious crash that left one person dead and another seriously injured. Virginia State Police in Tysons said several cars crashed on the inner loop of I-495 near Chain Bridge Road just after 10 p.m., NBC4 reports.
