Blood On The Highways: 9 People Killed In July 4th Weekend in Virginia Wrecks
State troopers said nine people died in wrecks across Virginia during the holiday weekend, including one in Loudoun County, but it's not all bad news. Robert Gogal, 87, of Bristow, died after he pulled out in front of oncoming traffic at the intersection of Harry Byrd Highway and Clayton Hall Road in Bluemont on July 4 just before 1 p.m., the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said. An allegedly drunk driver crashed into a Stafford County sheriff’s deputy while attempting to evade Virginia State Police troopers, authorities announced. Manassas resident Dominic Pineda, 21, and his passenger Margarita Mantilla, 22, of Herndon, are facing charges following an incident in North Stafford on Sunday, June 19. Chase In Stafford Ends After Driver Crashes Into Stopped Truck: Police
A driver trying to escape a ticket wound up in a lot more trouble after he crashed his car while trying to get away from police, authorities said. Deputies clocked Jefferson Melendez Duran, 19, of Sterling at 20 miles per hour above the posted 45 mph along Cool Springs Road in south Stafford on Sunday night, but when they went to pull him over, Melendez Duran picked up the pace, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said. Stafford Woman Drove Drunk To Pick Up Child At Daycare: Police
A Stafford woman drove drunk to pick up a child from daycare on Tuesday, May 24, authorities said. Elena Kuypers, 31, was arrested at 5 p.m. after a concerned commuter called deputies about a suspected drunk driver, Stafford County Sheriff's Office said. Deputies tracked her down to Children of America daycare where she was picking up a kid. Kuypers had a blood-alcohol level of .20, more than twice the legal limit at the time of her arrest, the incident report said. This is her second DUI arrest in 10 years. 54-Year-Old Woman Killed In Fairfax County Crash: Police
Police say alcohol and speed were likely factors in an early morning wreck in Falls Church that killed a 54-year-old woman and sent two others to the hospital. The wreck happened after 2 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, when a Honda Accord T-boned a Jetta waiting to make a left onto Skyline Plaza from S.
