Metropolitan Police Commander James Boteler said that at approximately 6 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, officers in the neighborhood were called to investigate a reported shooting in the 600 block of Bryant Street NW.
Nearby officers in the neighborhood responded to the site and found a person - whose name and age have not been released - suffering from a gunshot wound on the sidewalk. He was rushed to an area hospital by DC Fire and EMS personnel, where he later died.
Boteler said that the shooting is not believed to be related to the college or any of its students, and there is no current threat to the school. Instead, it is being investigated as a possible robbery that went bad.
Police are now seeking the public’s assistance as they attempt to track down a shooter who was reportedly last seen in a white SUV that was heading south on Georgia Avenue.
Photos and possible video are expected to be released by the department as the investigation continues.
