Dogs Left Outside During Cold Spell Brought To Virginia For Shot At Adoption: PETA
Several dogs left outside in the region during the recent cold spell have been brought to Virginia to be treated and eventually put up for adoption, according to PETA. When temperatures dropped in recent weeks, PETA fieldworkers have been out daily to come to the aid of dogs left chained or penned outside in the frigid temperatures, some of which saw their water bowls freeze over without any care from their owners. Alexandria Dog Chokes On Fishhooked Meat Chunk; PETA Pitches In To Find Culprit
A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for planting pieces of sausage embedded with fishhooks around Alexandria. The harrowing discovery was made when resident Sarah Eberhardt was walking her dog Potato near Duke and Ingram streets, around 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 7, officials said. PETA Honors Massachusetts Police K9 Killed In Standoff At Virginia Memorial
Animal rights group PETA said it would honor Frankie, the Massachusetts State Police dog killed in the line of duty last month, with a "leaf" on its Tree of Life in Norfolk. Frankie was fatally shot during a stand-off with a 38-year-old wanted man in Fitchburg, Mass., on July 26.
