One Killed, One Critical After High-Speed Crash That Shut Down I-95 In Virginia (Updated)

A high-speed crash on I-95 in Virginia turned deadly Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Virginia State Police reported that two vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Interstate 95 near the 163-mile marker when one lost control, striking a guardrail, then a jersey wall, creating chaos and severe damage.

According to police, a BMW convertible, changed lanes and struck a third vehicle. 

The BMW then went off of the right side of the interstate and struck the guardrail and the jersey wall. 

The driver of the vehicle, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle, and then run over by the car the BMW had made contact with and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the vehicle, who was also not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected and taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
