Late in the morning on Monday, May 27, officers were called to an apartment in the 1400 block of Newton Street NW, where there was an unconscious infant. Members of the Metropolitan Police Department were called shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22 to a home in the 1800 block of 18th Street SE, where they found Jordan Ballard unresponsive. The child was rushed by DC Fire and EMS personnel to an area hospital, where, despite lifesaving measures, he died. Shortly after 8:30 a.m. on July 1, first responders were called to make a water rescue on the river at the Arlington Memorial Bridge. Witnesses on the bridge said that they reported seeing the victim in the water, leading to a heavy response. Shortly after the initial alert was issued by DC Fire and EMS personnel, officials confirmed that they recovered the body, though the swimmer was pronounced dead.
