Jahnan Rahimpour was wise beyond his years. At just 14 years old, the Edgewater native was already an activist who was passionate about volunteering and did so often. His most recent volunteer work was at the Leonia Library and at the Bergen County Rowing Academy, developing skills of newcomers at Overpeck Park. Fluent in Farsi, Jahnan was proud of his Persian heritage and was thrilled to visit his parents' native country of Iran this summer for his aunt's wedding. North Bergen Special Police Officer Dies From Self-Inflicted Wound
REQUIESCAT IN PACE: A special police officer from North Bergen who shot himself in the parking lot of a Hudson River hotel in Edgewater succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, authorities said. Responding officers found township the officer sitting in a vehicle outside the Comfort Inn along the Hudson River around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, responders said. Sign Damaged At Church In Westchester
A church in Westchester was targeted by vandals who damaged a welcome sign. Vandals cracked the welcome sign outside St. John’s Episcopal Church in Pleasantville overnight on Friday, Jan. 17 splitting the sign right across the “J” in John’s. It comes after several other vandalism incidents at houses of worship in Westchester. If you expected to watch the Ridgewood 4th of July fireworks show from Stevens Field or the one at the high school on Thursday, you'll have to make other plans. The turf on both is being redone, closing the facilities. "We usually get a few thousand people sitting on the fields," Police Chief Jaqueline Luthcke said.
