Bloomfield PD Cracking Down On Drivers Who Don't Stop For Pedestrians
The Bloomfield Police Department is conducting a special enforcement campaign in April targeting motorists who fail to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks, the Division of Public Safety said. The enforcement campaign will be conducted at "several locations" in the township, officials also said. Since 2010, drivers in New Jersey have been required to stop, and to stay stopped, while pedestrians are using a crosswalk. Pedestrian Seriously Injured After Being Hit By SUV Near Marist College
A 61-year-old was hospitalized over the weekend after he was struck by an SUV on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie, near Marist College, police said. Officers from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department received a report shortly before 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6, of a Honda CR-V that struck a pedestrian on North Road, near the college. Police said that a 63-year-old Hyde Park man struck a Poughkeepsie resident who was on the roadway, not in a crosswalk. Connecticut State Police troopers dished out nearly 3,500 tickets and investigated two fatalities as they conducted special enforcement details over the Thanksgiving holiday. Beginning at midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 20 and spanning through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25, Connecticut State Police supplemented their normal patrol force with additional troopers who were targeting motorists on local roads and highways. Several truck drivers and their vehicles have been removed from the road in New Canaan as local and state police conducted a special detail targeting tractor-trailers in the area.
