Bad News For Noise Violators, Good For Some Who Owe Towing Fines: NJ Motor Vehicle Bills Passed
Good news for vehicle owners or leasers in New Jersey in towing and storage debt, bad news for noise violators. Senate President Nick Scutari, who was named acting governor following the death of Sheila Oliver, signed a handful of bills into law early this week. Among them, one that sets penalties for noise violations, another that caps towing and storage fees. One bill, S3374, caps vehicle towing and storage charges at $5,000 and, if the owner isn't notified within 30 days by the towing company, that fee is capped at $750. New Jersey is preparing to honor Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver, who died on Tuesday, August 1, at the age of 71. Gov. Phil Murphy announced the official New Jersey State Funeral and Memorial Service for Oliver will take place at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark on Saturday, August 12. Sheila Oliver, the lieutenant governor of New Jersey, died on Tuesday, Aug. 1, her family announced. She was 71 years old. Oliver, who was born and raised in Newark and lived in East Orange, had been serving as acting governor while Gov. Phil Murphy was vacationing in Italy. The New Jersey State Police will begin accepting applications for troopers beginning April 29. Applications, which will be available online, will be accepted until May 12, the agency said.
