Shooting Suspect Caught In Port Chester: Incident Prompts Schools To Delay Dismissal Local schools were asked to delay the dismissal of students as authorities worked to apprehend a shooting suspect in Westchester, police said. The delayed dismissals occurred as a result of an incident on Tuesday, Nov. 14, when the Port Chester Police Department was notified that a suspect involved in a shooting in Yonkers may have been in the village. According to the department, the suspect's vehicle was then soon found in Port Chester by FBI Safe Streets Task Force members. It was then discovered that the suspect had a local address, prompting authorities to begin surveilling their home.…

'Flying Ants' Close Central PA HS A bizarre and buggy lunch has led school officials to let students buzz off early. Lower Dauphin High School in Hummelstown with be dismissed early after "flying ants" apparently swarmed the school's cafeteria, according to a Facebook post by school officials around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023.  The post reads in part: "ALERT - Lower Dauphin High School will DISMISS today at 10:30 am on Friday, May 12, due to flying ants in the high school cafeteria which will prevent us from having lunch." All other schools will remain in session and be dismissed at regular times.

Water Main Break Leads To Early Dismissal At Westlake HS, MS A water main break has resulted in early dismissals at a high school and middle school in Westchester. The break "involves a significant 12-inch pipe that has no timeline for completion," Mount Pleasant Central School Superintendent Peter Giarrizzo said in an email to the community late Thursday morning, May 12.  Giarrizzo said there is currently no water at both Westlake High School, Westlake Middle School and the district office. Bus Driver Shortage Sends Students Home Early In NJ District Students in one New Jersey school district will be going home early due to a bus driver staffing shortage. Glassboro school officials emailed parents on Friday saying the high school and intermediate schools would be dismissed 45 minutes earlier than normal due to a shortage of approximately eight drivers. A Board of Education meeting to discuss the issue is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m., at the high school. Anyone with the proper credentials is urged to apply for a position.

This Morris County District Just Gave Students Their First Snow Day Of The Year A Morris County district became the first in the area to announce students would have a snow day Thursday. Students in Madison will have an early dismissal Wednesday afternoon and a day off on Thursday, district officials said. Classes will be remote on Friday for staff and students, the district said. Many districts are already remote and plan on continuing classes regardless of the snow, while other are factoring in outages and giving students work to do at home, or possibly a snow day. Totowa and Holmdel public schools announced early dismissals for Wednesday.
