Millions of teenage Instagram users are being forced into private accounts with enhanced security features aimed at limiting their exposure to harmful content. Teens with a private account must accept new followers and people who don’t follow them can’t see their contact or interact with them. It also comes with strict messaging settings, making it so they can only receive messages from people they foll…

"This is not your fault and you are not alone." That's the message New Jersey's Kaitlyn Cannon is sending to other victims of "revenge porn," after she successfully sued her former high school math teacher who shared her naked photos. An Ocean County jury last week ruled Cannon should be awarded $10,000 in damages, as first reported by Insider. Cali Madia, one of Cannon's attorneys said that she, Cannon, and lead trial attorney Daniel Szalkiewicz are largely pleased with the trial's outcome. "While we can’t help but be a little dismayed by the amount of damages awarded," said Madia, "we …

: Newly Passed Virginia Bill Dubbed 'Disaster To Online Privacy'
Those looking to watch porn in Virginia will soon need to provide proof of age to do so. A bill nicknamed the "Porn Passport" recently passed by Gov. Glenn Youngkin requires pornographic websites require visitors submit copies of their IDs proving 18 years or older. Websites that fail to do so could face a lawsuit. The bill was proposed by William R. Stanley earlier this year, and similar ones have been passed in Utah and Virginia. The Free Speech Coalition called the new move a "disaster" for privacy online. 🚨Virginia and Utah have now passed "Porn Passport" bills nearly identical t…

Police Warn Parents Of Location Sharing 'Mappen' App
Local police are warning parents of a new social media platform and smartphone app that is apparently aggressive in its quest to get users to share locations with contacts. Mappen's description in the App Store reads: “SEE WHERE YOUR FRIENDS ARE AND MEET UP. Mappen helps you plan your social life by showing you where friends are and what they’re doing so you can get together.” The app only shares users' locations with friends, but often asks for access to all contacts to be added as friends. Chester police -- and several other agencies -- are urging parents to talk to children about …

ALERT: Don’t Forward ‘Got Another Friend Request From You’ Facebook PM -- It’s A Hoax
You can stop forwarding that latest warning from your Facebook friends about your account being cloned. You weren’t. It’s bogus. And you're just making it worse. It starts out: “Hi….I actually got another friend request from you yesterday…which I ignored so you may want to check your account…” Then it tells you to “hold your finger on the message until the forward button appears…then hit forward….” Your account isn’t sending duplicate friend requests. And you didn’t receive a request from the person you’re forwarding it to. You’re simply doing it because the message tells you to. DON’T. …

Police are warning parents about a Snapchat feature that they might not be aware of. “There is a section that is hiding in plain sight: It is called ‘My Eyes Only,’ found in the camera roll,” Ridgefield Park police warned on Friday. “This section is passcode protected and is where images/videos can be saved privately,” the department wrote. “Items in this section would be images/videos taken by your child with that specific device.” To see if your child has activated this private area: Open Snapchat (it should open to the camera); Swipe the screen upward, which should take you to "…
