Phelps Hospital Workers Sign Agreement, Avoid Strike
Following week-long bargaining sessions, workers at a Westchester hospital have reached an agreement, avoiding a planned one-day strike.
Caregivers at Phelps Hospital, which Northwell Health owns, reached a tentative agreement with hospital leaders on Thursday morning, May 30, according to 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.
As a result, a one-day strike planned for Friday, May 31 was avoided, union officials said.
The tentative agreement includes:
Wage increases retroactive to April 2023;
No-cost family health insurance;
Secure pensions;

An anesthesiologist faces charges after allegedly giving anesthesia to a victim without her knowledge and sexually assaulting her, police announced.
Putnam County resident Paul Giacopelli of Southeast, age 59, was interviewed and arrested on Saturday, Dec. 30 on sexual abuse charges, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
According to authorities, on Friday, Dec. 29, the Sheriff's Office was told that a female victim known to Giacopelli had been given anesthesia without her knowledge and was then sexually assaulted.

Northern Westchester Hospital Raises More Than $1.7 Million At Annual Gala
More than 700 supporters of Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH), part of Northwell Health, gathered on Saturday, November 5, for the hospital’s annual gala at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. The event – which honored Scott D. Hayworth, MD, FACOG, and CEO and Market Leader, Optum Tri-State and CEO of CareMount Health Solutions, and former US Rep. Nan Hayworth, MD – raised more than $1.7 million.
A recent gift by the doctors will create the Hayworth Family Maternity Center in the modernized Maternal Child Health Unit at NWH.

Phelps Hospital Raises $625,000 At 35th Annual Champagne Ball
For the first time since the pandemic began, 325 devoted friends, guests, and supporters of Phelps Hospital, part of Northwell Health, gathered on Friday, October 21 at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club for the 35th annual Phelps Champagne Ball fundraiser. The black-tie affair, the largest fundraiser for the hospital, raised more than $620,000 in support of the hospital’s mission to care for the community. The evening’s Fund-a-Cause, which supports the hospital’s Comfort Care program, set a new fundraising record raising nearly $375,000 of the night’s total.

The Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) Foundation announced today that Barbara Alpert, MD, PhD, FACP; Pamela Hervey; Amanda L. Messina, MD, FACS; and Carl D. Reimers, MD, FACC, FSCAI, have been appointed as board members.
