Hackensack Shooting Under Investigation
Police in Hackensack are investigating a shooting on Friday, Oct. 4. Officers responded to Newman and Sussex streets at 9:30 p.m. on reports of shots fired, Hackensack Police Capt. Michael Antista said. No victims or witnesses were found upon arrival, and further investigation turned up a found shell casing, confirming that a shooting occurred. The Detective Bureau is conducting an investigation and no further information was available.

A Hackensack police officer was hospitalized Friday following a collision on his way to a call. Initial details were scant apart from word that the officer was headed to a report of a fight in the area of Atlantic and Main streets, with his emergency lights on, when his cruiser collided with a commercial van in front of the 7-Eleven at the corner of Essex and Newman streets before 9:30 a.m. Aug. 18. Teaneck Teen Nabbed In Hackensack Knifepoint Robbery Attempt: Police
Hackensack police nabbed a Teaneck teen moments after he tried to rob a man at knifepoint of money and his cellphone, authorities said. A first-degree robbery charge has kept Xiomor Highsmith, 19, in the Bergen County Jail since the June 22 incident. Officers responding to a call near the corner of Newman and Sussex streets found Highsmith carrying a folding knife and five counterfeit $100 bills, said Capt. Michael Antista, the officer in charge of the department. In addition to robbery, Highsmith is charged with fraud and an illegal weapons offense.

E-Bike Operator Critically Injured In Hackensack Crash
The 26-year-old operator of an e-bike was critically injured in an overnight crash in Hackensack, authorities confirmed. The operator was headed east on Essex Street with a 20-year-old passenger when he disregarded a red light and struck the rear of an SUV going south on Newman Street through the intersection shortly after 2:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, Detective Capt. Bergen Tech Students Make Donated Humvee Street Legal For Hackensack Police Department
Doing their part for public safety, a group of students in the Bergen County Technical School Basic Auto Body Class helped convert a donated Humvee to join the Hackensack Police Department’s fleet. The vehicles are used for high-water rescues in the city – which have been happening more frequently with the increased rainfall this year.
