Trump Nominates Elizabeth's Charles Kushner For Ambassador To France
President-elect Donald Trump has named New Jersey's Charles Kushner to serve as the United States Ambassador to France, he announced Saturday, Nov. 30.
Kushner, 70, an Elizabeth native, is the father of Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and was pardoned by Trump in 2020, having been convicted years earlier of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering.
Trump announced the nomination on social media, calling Kushner "a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker" who will "strongly advocate for our country and its interests."

Election Day 2024 is in the books, and Pennsylvanians have chosen their next representatives in Congress, with the race in the 7th Congressional District decided after the incumbent conceded.
In the commonwealth’s 7th congressional district race, Ryan Mackenzie defeated Susan Wild for the House seat representing Carbon, Lehigh, and Northampton counties, and portions of Monroe County.
Mackenzie was leading his democratic party opponent by a margin of 50.7% to 49.3%, with 99% of the vote as of 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6, according to the PA Department of State.

Monica Hong a 40-year-old Secaucus native, was killed along with her husband on Saturday, July 6, after they were struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Florida, authorities said.
At 10:10 p.m., Hong and her husband, Ben Steigner were crossing U.S. Highway 98 when they were fatally struck by a Toyota Tacoma traveling westbound in Franklin County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

22-Year-Old Cyclist Killed In Route 206 Crash Was Recent NYU Swimmer
Damian Baranowski, a 22-year-old cyclist from Pennsylvania, was killed while riding his bicycle in New Jersey, authorities said.
Baranowski was on the right shoulder of Route 206 north in Sandyston Township when a Nissan passenger vehicle entered the roadway, crashed into the back of the bicycle, and veered off the roadway, colliding with a utility pole and overturning around 2:50 p.m. Saturday, June 29, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said.

Friends and loved ones are remembering a Connecticut woman for her sense of humor and love for animals.
Fairfield County resident Katherine Hagendorf, of Danbury, died Monday, Aug. 1, at the age of 49, according to her obituary. A cause of death was not listed.
Born in New York City on Dec. 22, 1972 to parents Ross and Teresa (Brisland) Angione, Hagendorf later obtained a bachelor of arts degree in English at New York University, her memorial said.
She married her husband, John Hagendorf, on Oct. 12, 2013 in New York City.

Fairfield County entrepreneur, philanthropist, and founder of the Caldor department store chain, Carl Bennett, has died at the age of 101.
Bennett died at his home in Greenwich on Thursday, Dec. 23.
The Caldor empire came to be while working with his late wife, Dorothy Bennett, who together turned an $8,000 military salary savings into a chain of discount department stores that spanned from the 1950s to the mid-1980s when he sold his 120 store business to Associated Dry Goods.
