According to the National Weather Service, Monroe was one of the hardest-hit areas, with 9.98 inches of rain on Sunday, Aug. 18. The incident occurred in Fairfield County around 3:50 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 7 on Haviland Drive in Trumbull. Chief Greg Sanfanandre of the Long Hill Fire Company said Shaun Bogen, a town highway maintainer and firefighter with the same company, was working his snowplow when he noticed a garage fire. Cemetery Worker Rescued From Grave In Central Jersey A cemetery worker who fell into a grave was rescued in Central Jersey, authorities said. At 12:55 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, South Brunswick Police received a report of a man falling into a grave at the Holy Cross Cemetery, 840 Route 535.  South Brunswick EMS, Monmouth Junction Fire Department, and Monroe Fire Department responded.  The emergency agencies found a 47-year-old male down approximately 6 feet in an open grave site. Woman, Child Struck By Drunk Driver In SUV, Police Say An area woman and child were injured after being struck by an alleged drunk driver while crossing a roadway in the rain. The incident took place in Orange County around 9:50 p.m., Saturday, March 19, on Route 208 in the town of Monroe. The Monroe Fire Department was called to the scene of the fire around 10:24, Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 138 Hattertown Road in Monroe. First arriving units found the home fully engulfed in flames, said Lt. Stephen Corrone, of the Monroe Police Department. In order to allow for emergency vehicles, Hattertown Road is currently closed in the area, he added. Police Officer Passing By Awakens Family Before Fire Destroys Home In Area A fire that spread quickly destroyed a home in Shelton. The blaze broke around just before 7 a.m. Sunday, May 19. Shelton Patrol Officer Michael Kichar of the Shelton Police Department was on his way to work when he observed smoke coming from a residence at 184 Meadow St. in Shelton. Body Of Man Pulled From Lake In Harriman State Park The body of a possible drowning victim was pulled by dive teams from a lake in Harriman State Park near the border of Rockland and Orange counties on Monday morning. Lake Skannatati in Tuxedo was closed during the search. The man went underwater early Sunday afternoon. Thiells Fire Department divers were called to the scene after the Tuxedo Town Fire Department, Monroe Fire Department, Cronomer Valley Fire Department and  Stony Point Fire Department all responded. Employee Nick Colabella lost his Monroe home he shared with his wife, two daughters and mother to the fire on July 12.  The family, who were on the way to their grandmother's funeral when the fire started, lost everything in the fire.
