Firefighters Quickly Douse Blaze On Jersey Shore A family safely escaped a house fire in Howell, but a firefighter was injured, authorities said. The fire broke out at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9 at 948 Route 33, Howell police said. A 9-1-1 call was placed by an Eatontown firefighter who observed smoke coming from the residence. Upon arrival of the responding patrol officers, all occupants of the home were already safely evacuated, police said. Fire departments responded quickly containing and extinguishing the fire.  One firefighter suffered a cut to the hand. The firefighter was treated at the scene by the Howell Police EMS Division …

Paul Mazzeo, who happens to be a trench-collapse specialist, used construction debris to keep more dirt from collapsing in on him before a trench rescue unit came to the scene. Howell Police Search For Gunman Who Robbed Pizza Hut Police are searching for a gunman who robbed a Pizza Hut restaurant on Route 9 south in Monmouth County. The robber is a white male in his early 30s, 5-feet-8-inches tall, unshaven and wearing dark clothing, Howell police said. Armed with a handgun, he fled south on Kent Road late Friday morning, police said. Officers closed roads around the Pizza Hut and asked residents to avoid the area. Handgun, Heroin Seized By Howell Police Three people were arrested and nearly 2,000 doses of heroin seized in a pair of incidents,  Howell police said. In the first incident, Howell Patrolman Brett Kyle pulled over a car in the Ramtown section that had been reported as driving erratically. He asked for a K-9 team and Sgt. Nicholas Bondarew and K-9 Vito arrived. A positive indication from K-9 Vito and a search turned up 900 wax folds of suspected heroin, along with crack cocaine, marijuana and prescription medications, police said.
