Blaze Breaks Out At Shopping Plaza In Eastchester: Developing Firefighters were seen battling a blaze at a shopping plaza in Westchester.  The fire broke out on Monday afternoon, Nov. 18 at the Vernon Place Shops in the area of 717 White Plains Rd. near the border of Eastchester and Scarsdale, according to reports.  Smoke was seen pouring out of the shopping center's roof.  A large police and firefighter presence is now at the shopping center. Jericho House Fire Leaves Family Dog Dead A house fire on Long Island left a dog dead. The blaze began at about 4 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17 on Seaman Road in Jericho. Responders arrived to find the home engulfed in flames from the second floor and heavy smoke throughout.  All residents made it out safely, though the family’s dog was found dead inside.  The Nassau County PD Arson Bomb Squad and the Nassau County Fire Marshal are investigating. Hundreds Take Part In Funeral For Wethersfield Firefighter Killed Battling Blaze Mourners lined the roads leading to the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford on Monday, Oct. 28, to pay their respects to Robert "Sharkey" Sharkevich Sr. His casket was carried by a fire engine that was preceded by a cadre of police vehicles. His casket, draped in an American flag, was carried to its final resting place by his family and the firefighters who served alongside him.  Sharkevich Sr., age 66, was a lifelong firefighter.
