A broken water main created a steam and electrical condition at the Elm Court apartments on Passaic Street, Fire Chief Chris Tuttle said. Firefighters turned off the electricity in unit 6A to prevent a potential fire situation, caused by water from the first floor leaking into the basement, Tuttle said. Passaic Street has reopened to traffic after being closed from Maywood Avenue to Golf Road.
