A New York man was killed and another seriously injured when their ATV was struck by a car in the Poconos, police announced on Monday, Sept. 15. The crash happened in the northbound lane of State Route 115 in Tunkhannock Township at 2:36 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, according to the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department. Dymtro Prokopets, 22, of Brooklyn, was operating the ATV with 19-year-old passenger, also of Brooklyn, when their vehicle was struck from behind by a 2018 Nissan Sentra, police said. A driver is alive thanks to the quick actions of police after being trapped inside a burning vehicle on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Rockland County. The crash happened around 4:40 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, near Exit 12, when a car struck a tree and caught fire with the driver still inside, according to The Monsey Scoop and the Spring Hill Community Ambulance Corps. Emergency crews rushed to a Westchester shopping center after a car slammed into a building over the weekend. The incident happened around 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Towne Center at Somers, according to the Somers Volunteer Fire Department. At 12:57 a.m., troopers responded to Route 280 east in Orange after a Honda SUV veered off the roadway, struck a mound of sand, overturned and crashed into two trees, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said.
