A Pennsylvania man died and two other swimmers were rescued on the Jersey Shore, authorities said. Avon-by-the-Sea police responded to a report of several swimmers in distress at the Washington Avenue beach at around 6:34 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, the department said in a news release. Rescue swimmers saved two people and brought them to shore. They were rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for evaluation. Sundown Swimmers At Unguarded Ocean Grove Beach Rescued
Three swimmers were rescued while in the water after sunset in Ocean Grove, officials said. Rescuers were called to a swimmer in distress near the pier at the Main Avenue beach at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, the ANSWER team said in a Facebook post. The report was quickly upgraded to three swimmers in distress. When emergency crews arrived, they saw the three swimmers screaming for help. An Avon-by-the-Sea man was accused of driving while intoxicated when he crashed into a vehicle and drove onto the Belmar boardwalk, authorities said. Jason Nagy, 44, was arrested on Thursday, July 11, the Belmar Police Department said in a news release. An important bridge for many Monmouth County drivers will be closed for several months due to repairs, officials said. The state Department of Transportation (NJDOT) said the Route 71 drawbridge over the Shark River had a mechanical failure on Friday, Mar. 1 that caused "significant damage to the machinery of the North Bridge leaf." Structural evaluation and drawbridge engineering teams said the bridge is safe for vehicles traveling between Belmar and Avon-by-the-Sea.
