Writer Tells Tale Of Ridgefield Suffragist's Fight For Citizenship Rights RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — Suffragist Alice Paul of Ridgefield might be best known for fighting for the right of women to vote. But she also was instrumental in ensuring citizenship for children with one American parent and one non-U.S. citizen  parent.  Paul’s work personally affected Ridgefield resident Josette Williams, who spoke at a Ridgefield League of Women Voters gathering Tuesday. Williams was born in Japan to a Canadian father and an American mother. Since she was born after the Equal Citizenship Bill, which was signed by Franklin D. Roosevelt, she was recognized as a U.S. citizen. But…

WestConn Meteorologist Spells Out Snowfall Potential For Danbury FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — The chance of seeing snow in Fairfield County this weekend is pretty much a sure thing, according to meteorologist Gary Lessor at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury. But “the main question is, 'How much are we going to get?'” he told the Daily Voice. The U.S. model predicts 6 to 10 inches of snow in the region, while the European model predicts 3 to 7 inches. Which is more accurate? “Historically, the European model has been the superior one,” Lessor said. “It seems to do better in longer-term forecasts.” But Lessor said the U.S. models improve in …

Just breathe.” And, if you get a little too frustrated, keep in mind the advice from one of the sticky note authors: “It’s OK to scream sometimes.”  What words of encouragement do you have for DHS students? Let us…

Brookfield Group Encourages 'Connection Before Correction' In Parent Class BROOKFIELD, Conn. —Two Brookfield women believe the secret to better parenting is “connection before correction.” Robin Eckstein and Carol Dores founded Positive Discipline of Western Connecticut in 2013. The group, which works with parents in the community, promotes the development of life skills through classes that encourage positive relationships between a parent and child. Unlike some parenting programs, Positive Discipline’s classes have a unique twist: They give parents an opportunity to learn in an hands-on environment. “The program is built on experiential exercises and roleplayi…

Greenwich Students Praise Life, Legacy Of Martin Luther King Jr. GREENWICH, Conn. — Students and teachers at Greenwich’s Convent of the Sacred Heart celebrated the legacy of the Rev. Experts Say Access To Young, Tech-Savvy Talent Fueled GE Move To Boston FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — While GE has repeatedly criticized Connecticut's taxes and business climate, experts say the company’s decision to move from Fairfield to Massachusetts may have been fueled — at least partly — by another reason. GE, which is known for products ranging from light bulbs to jet engines, may be making the move to support its new branding as a technology company. The company’s new headquarters in Boston may afford it more access to younger, tech-savvy talent, according to several reports. “I find that rationale pretty convincing,” Donald E. Gibson, dean of Fairfield U…

Fairfield Realtors: Too Early To Know Impact Of GE's Move On Housing Market FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Many General Electric employees may soon be putting their houses on the market as the company moves from Fairfield to Boston. But local Realtors said it’s too early to draw conclusions on how the company’s departure will affect the housing market across Fairfield County. “Certainly the higher-level executives will be relocated to Boston,” said Berkshire Hathaway’s Mary Crist, the company’s office leader in Westport. “This will create sales opportunities in our communities.” These homes may be attractive to “the suburb-seeking New Yorkers (whose) rents are escalat…
