Dr. Barbara Friedes, 30, Killed In Philly Crash

The bicyclist who died in a crash on Wednesday, July 17, was a doctor at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, according to police and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia website.

Barbara Ann Friedes, 30, was struck from behind by a 2018 Volkswagen on the 1800 block of Spruce Street around 7 p.m., Philadelphia police wrote in a release. 

The Volkswagen then hit three parked cars before coming to a rest, police continued. Friedes was taken to Jefferson University Hospital and pronounced dead, while the driver of the Volkswagen was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries, officials said. 

Friedes was a third-year pediatric resident at the hospital, according to the CHOP website. She had attended the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and was a graduate of Florida State University.

No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning, July 18, and the crash remains under investigation, police added.
