Megan L. Riggs was arrested on the felony charge of Access Device Fraud and a misdemeanor for Theft by Deception on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the police detailed.
The charges come as the result of an investigation beginning in August of 2023. Riggs had been employed by Ephrata Performing Arts Center through August 2022, the police explained.
During her tenure with the EPAC she allegedly made "unauthorized purchases using an EPAC credit card and writing several checks for unauthorized personal expenses from an EPAC account between July 2021 and August 2022," as stated in the police release which noted that "The total amount of the unauthorized transactions was $2840.71. "
EPAC staff only involved the police "after attempts to settle the discrepancies directly with Riggs were unsuccessful," as stated in the release.
Riggs's preliminary arraignment was held before Judge Torrey J. Landis at 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29. She was released on $5,000 unsecured bail, according to her court docket.
Her next court appearance is a formal arraignment that is set for June 28 at 9 a.m., no preliminary hearing has been scheduled.
