Tractor-Trailer Fatally Rear-Ends Car On I-81: Pennsylvania State Police

A passenger has died in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 81, the Pennsylvania State Police announced on Friday morning.

State Troopers were called to the fatal crash along I-81 in Franklin County a minute before midnight on March 21.

The crash involved an International Freight Liner Tractor Trailer and a passenger car, both traveling north on Interstate 81. 

The tractor-trailer rear-ended the passenger car and "continued to travel straight north bound on 81, crossed both north lanes of travel and into the center grass median, striking the metal guide wire," police stated in the release.The car came to a stop facing south on the north bound lanes of I-81.  

Both vehicles suffered disabling damage, PSP noted.

The passenger the car died at the scene, the driver was flown to York Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries, and the trucker who caused the crash was uninjured, the police explained.

The names of the people involved and any charges filed will be released at a later date, PSP said. Check back here for those updates.
