Baby Rescued From Restaurant Roof Following Airborne Car Crash In PA: Reports

A baby was rescued, five people were injured, and a restaurant was condemned after a van slammed into it and a sedan landed on top of it on Friday, multiple media outlets report citing Shamokin Dam Police Chief Tim Bremigen.

A BMW operated by Theresa Risso was seen traveling erratically in the southbound lane of Route 11/15 before she struck another vehicle at Baldwin Boulevard around 5:40 p.m. Mar. 4, Daily Item reports citing Chief Tim Bremigen.

The Selinsgrove woman hit two more vehicles along 8th Avenue before veering in the northbound lanes and entering the parking lot of the Golden Chopsticks restaurant located at 3004 N. Susquehanna Trail, Daily Item reports citing the chief. 

The 43-year-old then hit a pole, followed by a concrete barrier, then a van and There it smashed into a pole, a concrete barrier and a van with two occupants, pushing the van into the restaurant, reports PennLive citing the chief. 

The building caught fire but it was quickly extinguished, according to the outlet.

Risso was given CPR at the scene before being taken to Geisinger Medical Center near Danville, where she remains in critical condition, according to Daily Item.

Christine Haught, 51, and James Haught, 46, of Shamokin Dam were in the van— James Haught was listed in critical condition Sunday at Geisinger, PennLive reports.

The drivers of the other two vehicles were Donna Rompallo, 66, of Kulpmont, and Theodore Kode, 68, of Millerstown, Bremigen told PennLive.

Ming Zhen, 53, of Shamokin Dam, an employee at the take-away restaurant, suffered a minor injury the outlet reports.

A Pennsylvania state trooper rescued a 1-year-old child who was in a car seat in the rear of the vehicle, Daily Item reports.

Risso had pleaded guilty to a safety restraint violation for a child under two in Feb. 2021, court records show.

Charges in this crash have not been released.

Due to the crash, PennDOT temporarily closed Route 11 in both directions between Eleventh Avenue and Tenth Avenue in Shamokin Dam, according to WNEP.

The car was removed from the roof around 10:45 p.m. Friday, according to PAHomepage

The build was condemned shortly after, according to PennLive.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
