The southbound trailer lost control and ended up in the northbound lanes, where it struck another tractor trailer and three other vehicles head-on, around 11 a.m. near the Saylorsburg exit, police said in a statement.
A driver and front-seat passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of another vehicle was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The highway was closed for several hours.
