Shots Fired At Elementary School Building In Berks County: Police
Gunfire struck the Cornwall Terrace Elementary School building in Spring Township last week, according to police. Authorities said they were called to the area near the Berkshire Hills Townhomes around 6:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9 for reported gunfire. Further investigation revealed somebody had fired multiple shots at the back of the school about a block away on Iroquois Avenue, police said. Christina Bortz Embezzled $24,000 From Giant: Spring Twp. PD
A grocery store employee in Spring Township is accused of bilking tens of thousands of dollars from her employer, authorities say. Christina Bortz, 53, is charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, according to court records. Spring police said Bortz works as the "checkout coach" or accounting employee at Giant and admitted to taking about $24,000 from the company. Bortz, of Sinking Spring, was released on her own recognizance and is due back for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 26, court records show.

Child Pornography Charges Filed Against Spring Township Employee
A Spring Township employee is charged with possessing child pornography in Lancaster County, according to state court records. Kenneth McCardell III, 36, of Lancaster, is also charged with criminal use of a communications facility, judicial filings show. "The Township has been advised that its employee (...) has been charged with serious criminal offenses by the Manheim Police Department," said Township Manager John Groller in a statement. Suspect Charged In Berks County Stabbing
A West Lawn man faces criminal charges in connection with a reported stabbing, authorities say. Spring Township police were called to Reading Hospital just after midnight on Monday, March 20 after emergency dispatchers were told that a person had been stabbed, the department said in a release. Marcel William Darienzo, 27, was charged with felony aggravated assault with an attempt to cause bodily injury with a deadly weapon, police said.
