Nurse Killed In PA Rt 283 Crash: Lancaster County Coroner
A 33-year-old UPMC registered nurse has died after being ejected from a vehicle during a crash on PA Route 283, authorities announced on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Karra Kate Clevenger of Middletown was the passenger in a 2025 BMW X5 SUV that rear-ended "a 53' Wabash reefer style trailer being pulled by a Freightliner Truck Tractor that was also traveling West," the police said and as later identified by the Lancaster County Coroner's office. Convicted Felon Puts Corrections Officer In Chokehold At Cumberland County Prison, Police Say
A 30-year-old convicted felon — in his third prison in six months — is facing new charges after putting a corrections officer in a chokehold, the police announced on Tuesday, April 2. Justin Miles Bookwalter of Huntingdon is accused of placing "the Corrections Officer in a headlock, while in the headlock the Corrections Officer was unable to breathe," the Middlesex Township police stated in the release. As heavy rain moves out of Pennsylvania, the National Weather Service has extended flood watches and wind advisories for several Pennsylvania counties. What began on Tuesday is expected to continue, this means high wind speeds are expected to blow at 20 to 25 mph in the advisory zones. The stronger wind gusts could blow down tree limbs and some power lines. Scattered power outages are possible, according to NWS. 2nd Deadly Crash In PA Turnpike's Longest Tunnel In 2023: Authorities
A second deadly crash of 2023 has happened inside the Tuscarora Tunnel, authorities say. The latest crash happened at the border of Huntingdon and Franklin counties at mile marker 187.4 west at 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. Multiple tractor-trailers were involved in the crash and one person died at the scene, according to the Turnpike Commission and the Franklin County coroner's office. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch in south central Pennsylvania. The NWS is warning residents and those traveling through the region to be mindful of flash flooding from noon to midnight on Thursday. Pennsylvania HS Senior Wins National Taco Bell Scholarship For $25K
A high school senior and Taco Bell employee in Cumberland County won the national Taco Bell scholarship contest, according to the company’s foundation’s website. Emma Seibert, of Enola works at the Taco Bell on Market Place Way and earlier this week she find out that she won the biggest scholarship her employer offers. Her $25,000 scholarship will help cover her tuition at John Hopkins University where she plans to study nursing.
