Duplex Porch Fire Caused By Cigarette Ash: Ephrata Police (Photos) The porch of a duplex caught on fire on Thursday, July 25, Ephrata police explained in a release the following morning.  The fire broke out at the duplex in the first block of North Church Street at 7:37 p.m., police detailed in the release.  "Police and fire officials determined that the fire was not suspicious and that the origin of the fire was a cigarette ash can on the back porch," as stated in the release.  While crews were at the scene, a BMW driver "carelessly parked in front of a fire hydrant," leading the police to issue a citation, they wrote in the release. …

Richard C .Grim of Lower Macungie Township, was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest around 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, the Lehigh County Coroner's Office said.  The cause of death was complications of 5.5% burns on his body due to trying to smoke a cigarette last week in his home, when a fire erupted, the coroner's office said. Firefighters and cops were called to a home on Mt. Zion Avenue in North Coventry Township around 8:15 a.m. on a report of a fire victim, local police said.
