Vietnam Veteran, PA Firefighter, Blaine Horn, Dies On 9/11 A former firefighter in multiple counties in Pennsylvania and a Vietnam veteran died on Wednesday, Sept. 11, his former station announced. Blaine W. Horn, 75, of Slatedale, passed away at his home, according to his obituary posted on Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc.'s website.  He was known in his community as the former Fire Chief of Citizen’s Fire Company #1 for over 40 years and the current Fire Marshal of Slatedale, but his service to his community dates back much further.   Blaine has been an active member of various fire services for over 60 years, according to his obituary. Authorities said a hiker discovered the treats near the North Trail Loop leading to the George W. Outerbridge shelter in Slatington over the weekend.  "Items like these could prove deadly to any animal that consumes them, including wild and domesticated animals," the PGC said.  Anyone with information or anyone who finds more tainted treats is asked to call 1-888-PGC-WILD or 1-888-PGC-HUNT.

89-Year-Old Man Dies Days After Clothes Catch Fire Burning Brush At His PA Home: Coroner An 89-year-old Pennsylvania man died of serious burns suffered while burning brush at his home last month, officials said. Leo C. Pavelco, of Slatington, was burning brush at his home when his clothing caught fire around 5 p.m. April 22, Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio said. Pavelco was hospitalized with burns covering 30.5% of his body, and died on May 3, just after 8 p.m., at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, Buglio said.

Cold CASE: PA Trucker Found Shot, Wrapped In Sleeping Bag, Dumped In Creek Over half a century after his body was found in Slatington, state police continue to investigate the death of Richard Stewart Wimbish.  The 49-year-old was found shot to death and wrapped in a sleeping bag in Trout Creek on Jan. 13, 1973, troopers say.  Wimbish was last seen alive leaving work on Dec. 29, 1972, authorities said. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Trucking Company located at 49th Street and Parkside Avenue in West Philadelphia.  His regular delivery route saw him travel as far north as Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and Stroudsburg, police said. …
