A cockfighting ring in Galloway Township led to 48 people facing charges of animal cruelty on Wednesday, Feb. 26, authorities said. Galloway Township police found electronic invitations to an illegally organized cockfight event scheduled in March 2024, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said. Police were able to stop a cock fight that was taking place in an arena constructed specifically for the purpose of rooster fighting, authorities said. More than 50 people were arrested after police broke up a large cockfighting ring in Atlantic County, authorities said. Galloway Township police executed a search warrant at a home on the 300 block of South Bremen Avenue on Saturday, Mar. 9, the department said in a news release. Over half a century after his body was found in Slatington, state police continue to investigate the death of Richard Stewart Wimbish. The 49-year-old was found shot to death and wrapped in a sleeping bag in Trout Creek on Jan. 13, 1973, troopers say. Wimbish was last seen alive leaving work on Dec. 29, 1972, authorities said.
