A Philadelphia police officer is on administrative leave after authorities said he shot and killed a dog during a mauling on Wednesday, May 1. PPD said an officer was patrolling near Fairmount Avenue and Union Street when a passerby told him there were "loose dogs" down the road. A 55-year-old Pennsylvania woman is in the hospital after she went to walk her dog in her backyard and unknowingly went past three bear cubs on March 5, authorities say. Lee Ann Galante was letting her dog out of the backdoor of her home on Bellefield Drive, Butler Township at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday when the bear attack began, as detailed in a release by the area Chief of Police John Hays.
