The call to the fire in the 100 block of East Chestnut Street came into Lancaster County Wide Communications at 5:05 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, according to dispatch logs.
The blaze soon closed the street near Grape Alley, as Fox43 reported.
A neighbor came to rescue a resident and a dog from the home the outlet explained citing Jim Kiefer, the PIO for Ephrata Fire Co., who noted that two people were injured and taken to the hospital.
The pair were later identified as a 17-year-old boy who ran into the neighbor's house when he heard the fire alarm "picked up the woman who lived there and carried her out," WGAL News 8 reported citing the Ephrata Fire Company. "The teen and his stepfather then went back inside to rescue several dogs," the outlet explained.
The blaze broke out on the second floor of the home, abc27 and Fox43 reported citing an LCWC supervisor.
The fire was marked under control at 6:40 a.m., the supervisor told abc27.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the home is no longer inhabitable, Kiefer told Fox43.
The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was at the scene investigating, according to WGAL.
